PORTLAND SEED FUND REVEALS LATEST INVESTMENTS

It’s always nice to see startups getting the support they need from local resources. And that’s why I’m always pleased to see a whole new crop of startups graduating from the Portland Seed Fund. This latest class—the sixth class for the program—presented to a group a local investors, this week.

A STARTUP WEEKEND THAT REFLECTS PORTLAND’S SUCCESSES

It’s no secret. Portland is a behind the scenes, business to business kind of town. Our most successful startups tend to be the names bandied about developer break rooms and user groups rather than household names. But that’s just fine. We’re good at that. And it fits our culture. And now, we have a Startup Weekend to reflect that strength: Portland Startup Weekend B2B.

THE EARLY ADOPTER PROGRAM IN PORTLAND, OREGON

It’s encouraging for us to see how the City of Portland is trying one way to improve procurement with their Early Adopter Program, which launched in March. Funding for the program comes from PDX’s Mayor’s Innovation Fund. What’s interesting about the early adopter program is two things: that the platform that’s being used to power the program - Switchboard – has come from a local PDX company, and secondly that it helps government move towards thinking of services in terms of user needs.
